Spring Show Update

22 May by Gwendolyn Agee

The Spring Show is just around the corner – we are so excited for the week to begin.

General guidance on how the shows will run
In response to feedback about the shows over the years, we are testing a new format for our shows this year. The new format is designed to accommodate families with multiple children in different classes, to keep the show lengths at a reasonable presentation time, and keeps us from having to restrict ticket sales per family.

A little background
In the past, we have noticed that families with young children and dancers who take our children’s classes leave the theater at intermission when their dancer is done, which leaves empty seats for the second act that could have been purchased for someone who needed more tickets for the entire show.

We also understand that it is hard for grandparents to come to multiple shows to watch their grandchildren and to buy tickets to multiple events.

Finally, we understand that not everyone is willing to watch both acts of a show that their children are not in.

By splitting the show into two parts, we are able to solve and address these issues.

For our students in Level 5 and higher, our shows will feel exactly the same as they have in the past. They will dance in a 2 act show with an intermission. Families had access to purchase their tickets in advance, allowing them admission to both parts of the show for one ticket price. These dancers are often in many dances. So, having their dances in both acts gives them more time between dances to change and prepare for their next dance.

Our “intermissions” will be about 30 minutes. At this time, we will clear and close the theater, dismiss dancers who perform only in Part A, and check in dancers who perform only in Part B. Dancers who perform in both parts will remain backstage through intermission.

About 10-15 minutes before the B part starts, we will reopen the theater and welcome our audiences to their seats.

Each part will have a welcome announcement and a finale. Both parts of the shows are no more than 1 hour in total run time.

Show 4B will be the exception as we graduate our class of 2025 and they present their senior pieces.

As with anything new, there will be a learning curve; we are grateful to you all for learning with us.

Lineups/Performance order
The lineups are being finalized. The “lineup” is the order in which dancers perform.

All the lineups are first posted on the Spring Show Website (please access the website by clicking the button on the home screen of this app). Please use this to help your child organize their costumes and shoes for the show. The lineups will then be added to the documents section on the app. Please note when the intermissions/show changes are scheduled.

Programs are completed next. We have transitioned to using only online/digital programs. The program links will be shared on the spring show website, on this app, and a QR code will be posted in the theaters on show day for you to scan with your smartphone. The programs are shared as “flip books”. A flip book is a gorgeous digital presentation of the program hosted online. The program site offers you the option to download and print the program. If you have grandparents or other guests who prefer a paper copy, please feel free to print off copies before you arrive.

Rehearsals
Remember that the rehearsal schedules are posted on the spring show website. Because we had to move one show to the Port Theater on May 29, some classes may receive an email from us asking if we could move the classes rehearsals to May 29 (shows 2-4). We will only move them if it doesn’t create conflicts and eases the families schedule.

Thank you!
